Hartford Yard Goats Trivia

Hartford had some of the earliest professional baseball teams–in the 1870s! Professional baseball left Hartford in the early 1950s.

In spring 2016 professional baseball came back to Hartford. The New Britain Rock Cats moved to the capital city. They needed a new name. The team owner held a contest. People made lots of suggestions—6,000! People suggested: the Hedgehogs, the Whirlybirds, the River Hogs, and the Yard Goats. Yard Goats was the winner.

The minor leagues is where players improve their skills. They hope to move up to the major leagues. The Yard Goats have been a minor league team since the 1960s.
